Epson Stylus D88

 General Explanation of D88 Printer Indicator Lights

Troubleshooting D88 with red Printer Ink Light Ink light on using ArTainium or Rotech Easy Flow III / IV Systems Bulk Ink Systems.

  1. Ensure the green light is on or flashing.  If the red Printer Ink Light ink light and red Printer Paper Light paper light are both flashing fast, this is a fatal error and you will need to contact Epson.
  2. Ensure there is paper in the printer.
  3. Check the carriage path to make sure nothing has fallen in the way of the print head.
  4. You can press the Printer Ink Light ink button to see which colour(s) the printer is reading as “empty” or unrecognisable.  You may need to press the Printer Ink Light ink button multiple times before the carriage moves to the ink changing position.
  5. Remove the power cable from the back of the printer, wait 30 seconds and plug the power cable back in.

 

Troubleshooting D88 with red Printer Ink Light Ink light on using Artainium, Rotech, SubliJet or ChromaBlast cartridges.

  1. Ensure the green light is on or flashing.  If the red Printer Ink Light ink light and red Printer Paper Light paper light are both flashing fast, this is a fatal error and you will need to contact Epson.
  2. Ensure there is paper in the printer.
  3. Check the carriage path to make sure nothing has fallen in the way of the print head.
  4. You can press the Printer Ink Light ink button to see which colour(s) the printer is reading as “empty” or unrecognisable.  You may need to press the Printer Ink Light ink button multiple times before the carriage moves to the ink changing position.
  5. Remove cartridge(s) from the printer.
  6. Wipe the chip contacts with Isopropyl alcohol and gently rub a pencil eraser over the contacts.

C88 Cartridge Chip

  1. Ensure that there is not an excessive amount of mounting material that might prevent the chip from making a solid contact inside of the printer.
  2. Reinstall cartridge(s) into printer and make sure it is set all the way down.
  3. Press the Printer Ink Light button to return the carriage to its home position.
  4. If the red Printer Ink Light ink light is on, power the printer off and then back on.
  5. If the red Printer Ink Light ink light is still on, and you have a solid Printer Power Light power light remove the SubliJet, ChromaBlast or ArTainium cartridges and install the original Epson ink cartridges into the printer and see if the red Printer Ink Light ink light goes off.
  6. If the original Epson ink cartridges work in the printer please contact Sawgrass Technical Support.  If you are unable to get the original Epson ink to work in the printer, contact Epson Technical Support.

Troubleshooting D88 with red Printer Ink Light ink light on using SubliJet or ChromaBlast Quick Connect Bulk Ink Systems.

  1. Ensure the green light is on or flashing.  If the red Printer Ink Light ink light and red Printer Paper Light paper light are both flashing fast, this is a fatal error and you will need to contact Epson.
  2. Ensure there is paper in the printer.
  3. Check the carriage path to make sure nothing has fallen in the way of the print head.
  4. You can press the Printer Ink Light ink button to see which colour(s) the printer is reading as “empty” or unrecognisable.  You may need to press the Printer Ink Light ink button multiple times before the carriage moves to the ink changing position.
  5. Remove the gray plastic chipset.

  1. Wipe the chip contacts with Isopropyl alcohol and gently rub a pencil eraser over the contacts.
  2. Ensure that there is not an excessive amount of mounting material that might prevent the chip from making a solid contact inside of the printer.
  3. Reinstall chipset into printer and make sure it is set all the way down and supported with the support bar.
  4. Press the Printer Ink Light button to return the carriage to its home position.
  5. If the red Printer Ink Light ink light is on, power the printer off and then back on.
  6. If the red Printer Ink Light ink light is still on, and you have a solid Printer Power Light power light remove the chipset and bulk ink system from the printer and install the original Epson ink cartridges into the printer and see if the red Printer Ink Light ink light goes off.
  7. If the original Epson ink cartridges work in the printer please contact Sawgrass Technical Support.  If you are unable to get the original Epson ink to work in the printer, contact Epson Technical Support.
